How can we help?
Installation, questions and contact — everything for getting your Snaplates on the glass and glowing.
On the glass in a few easy steps

Charge Snaplates via USB-C
Give the units a full initial charge (approximately 3 hours) using the included USB-C cable. The unit can be charged while switched on or off. After that, solar-assisted charging helps keep it topped up during normal use.
While charging, you can proceed with Steps 2–4 to prepare and install the U-shaped holder.
Clean the windscreen
Thoroughly clean the mounting area with a glass cleaner and a clean, lint-free cloth. Ensure the glass is completely dry and free from any residue before mounting. For best adhesion, install on glass at room temperature.
Choose your mounting position
Use the included removable positioning template to find the best spot on your windscreen. Simply attach, reposition or peel off as needed. Ensure the chosen position is clearly visible from outside the vehicle without obstructing the driver's view.
Mount the U-shaped holder
Peel off the adhesive backing and position the U-shaped holder around the bottom of the positioning template. Press firmly and evenly for at least 30 seconds, then remove the template. Allow a minimum of 30 minutes for the adhesive to bond before attaching the Snaplates display. Adhesive bond strength continues to increase over the next 24 hours.
Snap in your insert & display
Slide the appropriate L or P sign insert for your state and licence stage into the Snaplates display. Then slide the Snaplate display into the front guide channels (closest to the windscreen). When not displaying your sign, reverse the Snaplate so the blank solar side faces the windscreen (using the rear guide channels). The built-in sensors handle the rest.
NSW drivers
NSW requires L and P plates to be displayed externally. Snaplates offers a purpose-designed external holder to meet this requirement. The external holder is sold separately, with fitting instructions included.
Questions, answered.
Product
Do the lights stay on all the time?
No. Snaplates uses built-in light and motion sensors so the LEDs automatically activate when the vehicle is in use and light levels are low. In daylight or while parked, the unit remains in ultra-low power standby, helping conserve battery power when illumination isn't needed.
How long does the battery last?
Snaplates provides over 32 hours of continuous LED runtime on a full charge. In everyday use, it will typically last much longer because the LEDs only activate when light levels are low. The built-in solar panel provides ongoing top-up charging during daylight, helping extend the time between USB-C charges.
Can I switch between L and P plates?
Yes. Snaplates inserts slide in and out in seconds with no tools required, making it easy to switch between L and P plates as the driver progresses from learner to provisional driving.
Will it block my view while driving?
Snaplates is compact and designed to sit unobtrusively on the windscreen while remaining clearly visible from outside the vehicle. The included positioning guide helps you choose the correct location during installation, keeping the unit clear of the driver's normal field of view.
How do I charge Snaplates and how long does it take?
Snaplates can be recharged via USB-C and features solar-assisted charging, which provides a convenient trickle charge whenever there is sufficient sunlight, helping to top up the battery and extend the time between USB-C charges or using solar.
USB-C is the fastest way to recharge Snaplates, with a full charge from empty taking approximately 2–3 hours. Solar charging varies depending on the amount and intensity of sunlight and is designed primarily to top up and maintain battery charge during everyday use, rather than replace USB-C charging when a full recharge is required.
Switch it on and leave it on! Once switched on, Snaplates can remain on during everyday use. Its built-in motion and light sensors automatically control when the display illuminates, keeping power consumption to a minimum when illumination isn't needed. There's generally no need to switch it off between journeys.
Snaplates charge whether the power switch is ON or OFF, so there's no need to change the switch position when connecting the USB-C cable or using solar.
For normal USB-C charging, simply connect Snaplates to a suitable USB power source. During periods of extreme summer heat, as good practice with rechargeable battery products, avoid leaving Snaplates connected to USB-C in a vehicle parked in direct sunlight for extended periods. In these conditions, we recommend charging indoors or in a cool, shaded location instead.
What do the LED indicator lights on the back of my Snaplates mean?
Your Snaplates has two LED indicator lights on the back of the unit:
Left LED – Power: Illuminates white for a few seconds when the unit is switched on, then automatically turns off. The Snaplates remains powered on and ready for use.
Right LED – Charging: Illuminates red while the unit is charging and changes to green when fully charged.
These indicators make it easy to check your Snaplates' power and charging status at a glance.
Legality
Is Snaplates legal to use in my state?
Snaplates is designed with Australian L and P plate display requirements in mind. As requirements vary between states and territories, it's important to install and display your plates in accordance with your local road rules.
In NSW, L and P plates must be displayed externally, so Snaplates external holders are required and can be added when ordering your kit.
What sizes are the sign inserts?
Each Snaplates insert measures 154 mm × 160 mm and fits within the 160 mm × 163 mm display unit. L and P inserts are designed to meet the required plate dimensions for the applicable Australian state or territory.
